WTB: Technics Direct Drive (Quartz) Turntable

$

Item: Technics Direct Drive (Quartz) Turntable
Price Range: $100-$250
Item Condition: Used

Looking for one of these iconic turntables for an epic re-plinth project. Candidates include sl-q2, sl-q3, sl-1200mk2, sl-1300mk2, sl-1500mk2, sl-1600mk2 etc.

Main requirement is a good working motor & electronics, I don't care about the arm, cartridge or condition of the plinth. In fact, I'll feel better about taking it apart if the turntable is in terrible condition.

Let me know what you have..

Cheers,

Phil.

I bought these speakers new 24/12/13 from Paul Money (NZ dealer). NZ RRP was $3500 and Australian around $3000 I believe. Then I moved to Australia and brought them with me. Haven't had any issues with them (as usually for Dynaudio) and maintained/preserved them really well, so they are pretty much as new :)

Item: Anthem 225 integrated amp with remote
Location: Brisbane
Price: 920.00
Item Condition: excellent
Reason for selling: Have gone to tube separates.
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal

Extra Info: Bought august 2015 with 2 year warranty.

This retailed in the range of $2,500 to $1,500 but more commonly the lower price, which is what I paid. As the reviews say, it's powerful, but still has a very refined sound, detailed and dynamic. This comes pretty close to the tonal qualities of tubes in some ways, but I'm addicted to tubes and I'm using pretty efficient speakers which don't need 225 watts, so has to go somewhere where it will be used.

Has a very faint scratch on the right hand side, otherwise as new.

Locals welcome to audition. I have the original boxes so I can pack up for pickup if desired. It's pretty hefty so posting isn't an option, but I've used a very reasonable courier service in  the past for bulkier items.

Will put up some pics asap. thanks for looking.

A Multi-Channel Experience

Discover a whole new world of multi-channel surround sound with Denon’s AVR-4310CI A/V receiver, which is among the first to include Dolby’s latest Pro Logic IIz decoder, which provides for front height channels to dramatically expand the front channels’ soundstage. The highest resolution audio decoders are provided, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio for the ultimate in audio fidelity. Audyssey's newest technology, Dynamic Surround Expansion, provides a more enveloping soundstage by deriving front height or front wide width channels for the most immersive surround sound experience.

Analog and digital video sources are upconverted via Anchor Bay VRS processing to HD quality (up to 1080p/24/60), and the AVR-4310CI features no less than six HDMI inputs along with two parallel HDMI outputs. The Audyssey MultEQ XT room acoustic correction system features a supplied microphone that measures and corrects speaker/room response for up to eight measurement points, and the Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ systems provide rich, extended response at any volume level with no annoying volume jumps during commercials. With XM and Sirius satellite radio options, the AVR-4310CI also features built-in HD Radio for dramatically improved fidelity.

HDMI Clock Control via DENON LINK 4th

DENONLINK is proprietary high-quality digital audio transmission technology that uses a real-time balanced transmission system to protect the signal from external noise. With the more advanced Denon Link 4th used in an HDMI connection, for HD audio read from Blu-ray disc as well, the master clock that operates the D/A converter of the A/V surround receiver is transmitted to the player, enabling the circuitry to be operated while sharing the same clock in order to achieve digital audio transmission with negligible jitter. Sound localization becomes more precise and a greater sense of space is produced in the sound images. When combined with a Denon Blu-ray player that supports Denon Link 4th, users will be able to enjoy the highest level of sonic quality that is expected from HD audio.

Clock Jitter Reducer Available for All Digital Inputs

The Clock Jitter Reducer thoroughly suppresses fluctuations on the clock waveform to remove distortion from the digital audio signal and minimize adverse influences on sound quality.

Audyssey DSX Processing

Audyssey DSX extends 5.1-channel and 7.1-channel sound sources to a wider and higher dimension. A sound that is wider to the left and right is achieved by adding a sound source (LW/RW) that is wider than the usual placement of the front (FL/FR) speakers, and a greater sense of height in sound space is achieved by adding a sound source (LH/RH) in the upper area between the FL(FR) and LW(RW) channels.

Dolby Pro Logic IIz Processing

Dolby Pro Logic IIz is surround technology that adds front height channel sound sources above the front left and right speakers to enable 7.1-channel playback for 5.1-channel program sources or 9.1-channel playback for 7.1-channel sources such as Blu-ray. Since the dimensions of height is being added to the conventional surround sound, you can experience sound movements above you while watching movies or playing games. With music, the sound space of a concert hall is more realistically reproduced.

USD Digital Direct Connection of iPod (audio only)

The AVR-4310CI has USB ports for digital audio input from an iPod to let you enjoy music in high-quality sound made possible by acclaimed Denon audio technologies such as DDSC-HD and the combination of AL24 Processing and high-performance D/A converters. You can also operate the system while viewing information from the iPod, including music information, on the TV screen through the AVR-4310's GUI fuction. Simply use the USB cable that comes with your iPod to connect to the AVR-4310CI.

Direct Mechanical Ground Construction

Vibration-resistant construction has been reviewed to thoroughly suppress the adverse influence of vibration on sound quality. The power transformers, a source of vibration, have been securely mounted on the highly rigid bottom chassis. Direct mounting of cast-iron feet to the radiator in near proximity to each other serves to suppress mutual vibration with the power transformers and other sources of vibration.

Advanced GUI Superimposed on HDMI (up to 1080p)

The AVR-4310CI is equipped with an easy-to-view Graphical User Interface (GUI) featuring visual menu displays and hierarchical directories. The hierarchical directory displays let you easily see where you are and what settings you want to make. Operation has been simplified as well. These menu displays can also be output to the TV monitor over HDMI.

So I bought one once my Behringer 2496 Feedback Destroyer died.

Gotta say it's way easier to drive without having to have your computer  on to for guidence.

Not sure if I have done anything wrong as I just let it go and do its thing in auto mode.

Anyhow here are some screen shots running via my HT-AVR

Will try some other things again soon to see what changes they may bring.

Also worth noting that I do not use the subs or Velo processing with my 2 channel playback as they are not in the chain at all.

A penny for your thoughts.

This is just my mains without any sub action added.

IMG_1393.JPG

Then there is this one with subs added, sounds overblown at times with high intensity action sound tracks.

IMG_1391.JPG

Then this one running a different profile, not as much slam but kicks along very nicely.

Item: Bel Canto 2.7 DAC
Location: Melbourne East
Price: $2100, RRP is $3950
Item Condition: Excellent
Reason for selling:

I bought this last week to use with the TV via optical into the goldmund amp (as I couldn't get the optical on the goldmund working when a coaxial cable was plugged in), which is a complete waste of this great DAC. This problem is now resolved so TV and movie duties now go straight, so no longer required - should really be used for music in someone's system.

Noticed a same DAC selling here for $2200, so for anyone missing out, here's a $100 discount for nothing :)

Good CD for about a grand?

Looking to move up the CD food chain soon, with around $1000 budget. Nothing too fancy but something that can do a respectable job would be nice.

Second hand, new, dosnt matter (but I dont want anything with pox on the fascia, it must present well)

I have a Consonance Don Curzio DAC, not wanting to upgrade that if I can avoid it.

What would you recommend?

Vintage Yamaha vs something new

$

I'm in upgrade mode and wanted to know if an upgrade from my Yamaha YP-D6 direct drive tt to somethings new (under a $1000) would be significant?
I've got a Ortofon 2m blue on the Yamaha and would like to transfer this to a new table. I was wondering about a Music Hall mmf-2.2 or a Rega RP3 as they are on run out at the moment for $850.

Just this weekend I've taken position of my Weston Accustics Troubadour 350 amp, hooked up to my Polk Audio monitor 10B's. (Which I'm thinking of servicing with new caps).

I'd appreciate people's opinions?

Where has all the vinyl gone?

$
0
0
Well it's just over 30 years ago that record companies started really pushing CDs (IMO a format we didn't really need) and by 1991 I was unable to purchase new vinyl at most stores.

And now we are in 2016 and this year in particular the hobby of collecting and enjoying quality records is getting quite expensive. Just three years ago quality artists and used LPs could be bought for under $20, in some cases $15. Now it's around the $25+ mark and the iconic artists like Bowie, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin are $40+ even for AU pressings, and not so commonly available. Record stores are on the hunt for good used collections to stock their stores.

These LPs sold in their millions in their day. So where did they all go? Or are the baby boomers and Gen Xers now holding onto them?

On a positive note I don't think we have been so spoilt with so many used record dealers in my part of the world for over 30 years. And perhaps the range and scale on offer now is as good as or better than it was back in the 80s. Just make sure you have plenty of cash.
