The bass is laughable, some music sounds horrible with it and you have to sit 4 feet away from it. However paired with a very good tube amp (Audio Space 3.1 WE300B) and some vocals or acoustic music, the effect is mesmerising (when I finally looked at my watch, it was past 1am in the morning).
Just got a Rogers 15ohm LS3/5A from UK. I have not come across any white coloured LS3/5A (although there is another one on Ebay at the moment - difference is that the Ebay one has a white back while mine has a black back, and the stickers are different). The white looks like lacquer. The seller can only tell me that he bought it 5 years ago from an audio dealer who said it came from a studio. When it arrived, one speaker was silent so I sent it to Duc who found a loose wire and soldered it.
I compared it with the Kef LS50. There are obvious differences. The LS50 sound is warm, expansive and holographic. In comparison, the LS3/5A is a bit brighter and more intimate (although sitting 4 ft away I supposed is intimate, and it was supposed to be made for mobile studios and caravans). When I am listening to Nils Lofgren Acoustic Live LP (Once Analog/PU3/Lyra Delos/RCM Sensor 2) the best analogy I can give is that the LS50 sounds like being in a concert hall with very good acoustic while the LS3/5a sounds like he switched off the mike (which was what happened recently at a Richard Marx concert).
I will be interested to hear from other experience with the LS3/5A.
