Thought by many to be the *BEST* cassette deck ever made. Has many innovative features, and has reintroduced many audiophiles to the joys of analogue, and the possibilities of compact cassette as a competitive medium.
Frequency response far exceeds CD when the higher grade metal, or chrome tapes are used. New tapes are still readily available. Now a highly sought after collectible, as well as a very usable component, prices have been steadily rising over the years.
IMHO, I have found the better Nakamichi tape decks to be a very enjoyable source on my very revealing system, and the Dragon is capable of good imaging/soundstage, presence, air. Lesser decks usually sound flat, no dynamics, poor transients etc and unengaging.
This deck will suit a discerning audiophile wanting a sonicly, mechanically and cosmetically top condition recording and playback machine.
