Extra Info: Classic 301 Garrard turntable, less than one year old, comprising plinth, motor, tonearm and dust cover.
The turntable includes a hand-made beautifully finished slate plinth, consisting of three separate 18mm layers. The plinth alone weighs more than 20kg and measures 610mm by 470mm. The polished surfaces yield a unique colour that changes depending on the light and the surrounding room space. The plinth is made to accommodate two tonearms (9” and 12”) with spare slate boards which also include SME cutouts for immediate inclusion of such tonearms. A fully tailored PVC dust cover is also included. This turntable will definitely become the visual centerpiece of any hifi system!
The Classic 301 is a significant improvement on the vintage Garrard 301 turntable, featuring amongst other things, a better bearing, a CNC machined chassis from a solid slab of aluminium, (not a variable casting like the original) the hardware, as well as linkages, fascia plates, platter mat etc. which are all built to replicate those classic looks but utilising modern engineering techniques. As seen in photos, the Classic 301 comes in a classy gloss black colour with chrome controls.

The tonearm is Analog Instruments Siggwan 12. This is a 12-inch unipivot tonearm (approximately 310mm from stylus to arm pivot). It features a silky wax-finished wood arm manufactured from Cocobolo, a Central American “tonewood” favoured by guitar makers. The Cocobolo arm wand is designed uniquely as one continuous beam from cartridge platform back through the brass counterweights, with an ingeniously integrated bearing.

The sound of this turntable is as good as its looks. Its solidity, presence, body, speed, dynamics, sound staging, noise floor and low-level detail retrieval is equal to or above that of any table on the market today, regardless of price. Garrad 301 is a classic and this turntable takes its signature sound to a higher level. I have used it with several tonearm / cartridge combinations (SME 3009, VdH Colibri, Sumiko BPS) with outstanding results.
The turntable can be sold without the tonearm. Similarly, VdH Colibri cartridge may be included in the package since it is on sale separately. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a superbly sounding and looking analog front end to last a lifetime. Serious prospective buyers are welcome to audition the table at my home in Sydney. Due to its size and weight, only local pickup will be considered.
