So, after a great deal of indecision and auditioning i settled on the Krix Harmonix MkII and couldn't be happier.
Got an amazing deal from the incredibly helpful people at Carlton AV and after a weeks wait while they made a fresh set for me, picked them up on Monday.
Firstly, Holy f*cking sh*tballs are they gorgeous. In all honesty, after looking at speakers like the Monitor Silver 8's the Krix didn't hit the spot for me aesthetically, but after having them floating around in my mind for a week or so they grew more and more appealing. I grew to love the, no bullshit look that kinda says "What? I'm here to do a job, just shuttup and listen" and the Atlantic Jarrah might have been the most expensive finish but it was totally worth it, i can barely take my eyes off them when i'm home.
It terms of sound, they just keep getting better and better. I have them running off my HTPC, through a HRT Musicstreamer II DAC then bi-amped through my Denon 891/2311 with about 135Watt @ 6ohm per channel and although a dedicated amp is next on the shopping list it is holding it's own really well and not sounding the least bit lacking in balls. I've put about 15 hours through them so far with a variety of music: From Ludovico Einaudi, London Grammar, Asgier, Portishead to Opiuo, Applecat, Talpa, Terrafractyl. GMS, Staunch; Everything from classical to really phat Israeli psy. The more time i spend with them, the more they open up. They sound so incredibly clean with such fantastic separation and range and although the stereo imaging (i think that's what you call it? ie. your ability to close your eyes and hear where the instruments were placed during a recording) is a touch less than i would have hoped for, i can only imagine that will improve with more hours and some experimentation with placement.
So, big thanks too everyone on here. This forum has been an amazing reseouce so far and i'm looking forward to more time on here as i head down the rabbit hole!
