I had a quite bizarre encounter with a SUT I bought recently, maybe it is not quite that unusual for those who knows.
My usual setup is as below and works perfectly:
TT (Rega RP8) => Phono Preamp (Moon 310LP) => Attenuator (Lightspeed) => Power Amp/Mono Blocks (KR Audio) => Speakers
I added the SUT (Bob's Devices 3440A) and there is sound coming out of left channel only, naturally, I thought there is a problem with the SUT.
TT => SUT > Phono Preamp => Attenuator => Mono Blocks => Speakers (Sound from left speaker ONLY)
I checked all connections, nothing seem to be loose.
A few days later, I acquired a Sansui Integrated D11 and a G77X. They both have an onboard MM/MC phono stage. I tried the SUT with both the Sansui. No problems. SUT works perfectly.
TT => SUT > Integrated (MM/MC in with MM selected) => Speakers
I have also tried:
TT => Phono Preamp => Integrated (aux in) => Speakers, no problems!
TT => SUT => Phono Preamp => Integrated (aux in) => Speakers (Sound from left speaker ONLY)
So what could be the problem connecting the Bob's Devices SUT with the Moon 310LP Phono Preamp?
Can someone here shed some light on this?
