Hi Everyone,
I'm new here and I love to get some suggestions/recommendations for some new front speakers.
My current system consists of:
- Yamaha HTR-6068 receiver (same as the RXV679 unit)
- Yamaha CDX-596 CD player
- Sony MDS-JE440 Mini-disc player
- PS3 for Blurays
- Four 250mm high bookshelf speakers with 4" Avico mids and Vifa tweeters
- A centre speaker with two 4" Avico mids and Vifa tweeters
- and 10" XLS Peerless active subwoofer in a large ported box

Everything above apart from the Yamaha receiver & the PS3 is 15 yrs old and still going strong. However, I'm now looking at upgrading the front speakers and maybe the centre speaker. My preference is home theatre but I still want these front speakers to sound reasonably good for CDs in 2 channel stereo.
Now here's the dilemma. Since I have a 2 year old daughter I don't want to place my front speakers on the floor. I'm looking at getting the largest bookshelf/standmount speakers or compact floor standing speakers to sit on the entertainment unit either side of the TV. And then I'll get proper stands for the rear speakers so they can be placed behind the lounge.
So the total height of the TV is 830mm, and I'm hoping to find some speakers maybe 600mm high that play quite low (say around 50Hz) with a lot more authority than my existing speakers. Currently my subwoofer plays up to 100Hz. I've been researching quite a bit and it seems there's a hole between the bookshelf speakers and the floor mount speakers. Most bookshelves are between 300 and 400mm high and the floor standers seem to be 800mm and larger. Are there any speakers that members on here can recommend that are approx 600mm or less? And are there any speakers out there that are 3way...say have an 8", 4" and 1" driver?
Budget wise, I'd say about $1000 for the pair, but cheaper is good too. Also if there are some great 2nd hand speakers out there I'd be keen to hear about them too. Thanks guys
