Peach Audio Balanced Power Supply

I have read a bit on Balanced transformers and thought this might just be a good solution to offering cleaner power.

I got in touch with David from Peach Audio who offered a 2000 Watt Balanced transformer with the added bonus of lowering the voltage by at least 10V.

Sounds perfect for my situation. So when it is 253V from the wall my components would see at most 243V. Great!

It is made by Tortech to Peach Audio specifications.

It arrived Thursady and I plugged it in only to find it was putting out a similar voltage to what was coming in.

An Email to David mentioned I need to load it up before I would see this drop in voltage as I had no load.

I have put my components onto the balance transformer and away I go only to find it only drops 3V.

Added my 60" plasma and it dropped another volt. :(

Currently have PC, Dac, Keces Transfomer, Emo XMC-1, Phono stage and Tube Integrated amp connected.

Thought why not put in front of my P5. That way I would have better power feeding into the P5 and then it would drop the voltage to a safer level.

No go here as my P5 chucked a bit of a fit and started humming very loudly.

So back to using just the Balanced transfomer.

It seems very quiet but can just hear a slight hum if I move right up next to it. Perfect in this regard for me.

I got to say I am so impressed with the sound!

The music just has so much depth and clarity that I only normally get very late at night. Music just seems to flow nicely, it is easy to relax and enjoy whatever is playing.

Had a mate around last night and he even commented how nice the music was. Then I showed him the addition. He is not into hifi as much as me and shakes his head at my purchases.

He has been coming around for umteen years on the weekends and has never before said my stereo has sounded great. :)

There is a ease to the music with all the little subtle sounds being so very easy to hear.

Today the voltage is around 253V and I switched back to a Sold State amp and it reads 250V from the Balanced power supply.

I think still to high for my Emotiva products.

I have then switched back to PS Audio P5 and it seems the sound is a just little harder. That ease to the music is just not quite the same. I think some of those real subtle sounds are not as noticeable any more.

It takes a while to swap between. My listening is over a 1 hour period to get a feel for them. I do run the P5 to output 237V.

Unfortunately the big problem I have here is high voltage from the wall and it seems as I do not load up the Balanced power supply enough, I don’t feel safe using it over the long term with the components I buy.

Eg. US and china components.

I have had more than my share of Audio products die on me over the years. Integra, Yamaha, Emotiva and a few others.

I will see if I can return this, even having to pay any restocking fee.

So far with my listening it is a nice improvement over the PS Audio Regenerator. Would need a lot more time with it but initial listening it is impressive and lifts my stereo to a higher level.

I thought I would write this up before I consider packing it away. Would love to keep it but I think my components do not load it enough to lower the voltage to safer levels. :(

I seem to peak at 256V from the wall on occasions and rarely see below 250V.

I used cheap extension cords too as I did not want to chance scratching it in any way lifting it closer to my stereo as it is quite heavy. 18KGs.
