I have been playing around with tweeters as alternatives to the titanium domes in my Yamaha NS75T speakers.
I have an original pair of Fountek JP2 ribbons which use a pure aluminium ribbon and which sound excellent as replacements for the Yamaha.I have tried about 8 different tweeters and the Fountek sounds by far the best.Not that the original Yamaha is that bad-just a bit hard and cold for my tastes.
The ribbon sounds far more natural and airy to me.Indeed this the best I have heard those ribbons sounding.
Crossover is around 5000hz ,second order from a large titanium dome midrange.
Those ribbons are a bit knocked around and I was wondering about buying a new replacement.Perhaps a Neo CD3 as it would also fit better into the box.
The issue being that Fountek has gone away from the pure aluminium ribbons and now uses a composite sandwich material.
Has anybody compared the new designs with the old?In theory the newer should be better but the old ones used very delicate ribbons and It makes me wonder if the new ones have been selected for their more robust nature than their sound?
