Ok so I've been thinking about this for a while and wanted to see what people think.
It starts with the fact there is a heavy resurgence in the quest for vinyl and with any collecting there is rarities and better versions etc. I myself have just started collecting rare versions of albums that I really like. As in not just buying rare albums for the sake of it.
Which brings me to the fact that some albums I like are only released in limited numbers and therefore can have astronomical value. It seems strange to me that the record companies are not jumping on the fact that people want vinyl. And in the age of downloads it would seem that vinyl is the best way for the product not to be readily available as a copy. ie: if you want the record you have to buy it..as yet your mate can't burn you a new record. You could still release limited copies etc. as special editions, but keep a base product on the go.
I'd love some Angus and Julia and also some Powderfinger etc. but these prices just force me to Spotify or download. As much as I'd like the tactile experience and sound of an LP sometimes it's beyond reach.
Anyway just some thoughts. I'd be interested to hear what others say regarding their collections and desires.
