This Dac can be used as a pre also.
For some comparison, l had a DAC shootout a few years ago, there is a thread here somewhere.
There was a Krell KPS-25s, Belcanto DAC3 and NAD M51.
the general view was that the Krell sounded the best and the Bel Canto a very close 2nd to the NAD which came in last.
Everyone said that given the Bel Canto was 2k more expensive it made the NAD a better buy.
I think at this price you'll struggle to find something better.
