Having decided to get Golden Age Audio to rewire my Rega tonearm, I resurrected my late Dad's vintage Pioneer PL-340 from 30 odd years of storage.
Taking off the platter I found the old belt had dissolved into something resembling chewing tobacco. It also had no needle on the stylus.
Removing the bottom revealed some wires that needed re soldering and a dodgy looking RCA cable.
The belt I got from Radio Parts for $7, a new stylus off eBay was obtained for $20 and a big thanks to Peter at Golden Age who sorted out the cabling and soldering in no time.
Some WD40 and brasso got moving parts and scratches sorted out. As some of you will know elbow grease and hard work are not my forte. But somehow I got it working.
What's it sound like? Hooked up to the Lehmann Black Cube not too bad for a backup T/T. Not much mid range but a surprising thwack in the bass.
When the Rega returns I will give the Pioneer a tour of duty in the study and maybe digitalize some old vinyl.
