In short I purchased these off the original owner around 18 months ago. I have spent nearly 5k on these restoring them and upgrading them with other JBL components.

Bass drivers have been changed to arguably JBLs best vintage 15" transducer, the 2235H's. They were reconed with genuine JBL kits from Speaker Exchange in the US which are not cheap.

The horns were changed to 2425J but the diaphragms were swapped out with brand new genuine D16R2421 kits. The same aluminum diaphragm that is preferred for home listening and the replacement diaphragm for the original LE85/2420 horn.

A 2405 slot tweeter was added to aid in the top octaves. Again these contain genuine JBL 2405 diaphragms and nothing cheap and nasty from china.

A new crossover was built for these based on the Nelson Pass L-300 crossover he designed. I used only the best parts here once again. Wax coils everywhere including a thick gauge bass inductor to get the DCR as low as possible. Jantzen Superiors in the Mid-range and there Silver-Z caps in the tweeter section.

Cabinets have been stripped and french polished for a durable long lasting finish. They look new, maybe better.

I ordered reproduction grills from the US, made of a foam that will not disintegrate like the originals. Knocked up a new frames to fit and they are mounted with small magnets. Not shown in the pictures as I fitted these at a later date.

They are sold with port plugs so you can play with the cabinet tuning, from memory running both ports open tunes to cabinet to around 35hz while one plugged in 26hz.

Replaced the chipboard plinths with a hard wood plinth and mounted them on small castors.

All in all these speakers throw out a huge, dynamic sound with gut wrenching bass and open top end. These are not toys and generate huge SPL's and very efficient. They are around 93db/w.

As mentioned they have proper port plugs and are not running the trademarked toilet-roll port reducer.
