My Thorens TD160 sits on an IKEA butchers block but the cabinet it sits on is very acoustically active.
I was hunting around Discount Shops and Op Shops looking for some silicone balls to use for isolation as heavy bass was having a nasty effect on sound quality.
While I was in the Op Shop I found a set of four wire spring boiled egg holders for $2. The TD160 is very heavy and I doubted they would be tensile enough to support it. However, they DO support it and the isolation works splendidly.
The TD160 also came from an Op shop for $10. The original plinth was a bit daggy so I made another one from Tassie Oak. The original Thorens arm was replaced with a $150 Rega off Ebay. I paid full price for my Ortofon Blue cartridge but the whole setup was a pretty good deal.
The phono preamp and power supply use Rod Elliot PCBs and sound superb.
