Ok, so my 10+ year old Sony earbuds bought from Japan that have been flawless at full volume through ipods/pc's even integrated amps have now gone to the great Head-Fi gathering in the sky and I am looking for a replacement but the headphone market is so overwhelming I don't know where to begin replacing them.
I have been on a few of the headphone store sites but the range is just so overwhelming.
I don't have a fancy DAC or Headamp yet and my PC is my main listening source, I am a complete METAL head but also indulge in DnB/Trance/Electronica as well, yes most of my music is lossy mp3 with some FLAC albums thrown in
I have decided I want over ear as I've done the whole buds thing now and want a change.
My budget is around the $200 mark and so far I have seen a few phones in that price area that take my fancy
Beyerdynamic DT770 series on sale currently at A2A
Ultrasone Pro series
Hifiman HE-400
Audio Technica ATH-M50
Sennheiser HD598
Any opinions and suggestions would be good, I think higher ohm impedance phones need more juice ie. a headamp of sorts correct ?
