So a few months ago I was doing some home recording with a friend of mine, when out of his bag he pulled an unassuming DI box to lay down a track. I offered him my neve DI box to which he refused and said i'll lay down track with this.
Now it wasn't until after he left that arvo and I was sitting at home doing a rough mix when I realized how good that DI box sounded! Better in my opinion then the neve DI which is no slouch!
So I called my mate and found out it was created by gilesaudio in Melbourne years ago and it's been a favorite of his ever since he purchased it!
So it got me thinking, there must be soo many amplifier, speaker, pre amp designers out there who are unheard of in Australia (or abroad) who's gear quality and designs stand up with the best of the audio industry but aren't known.
So I was wondering if others have story's of amps. Speakers, dacs, whatever audio related, where you have come across little known designers (commercially) who may do designs and builds of gear on small scale, which have blown you away.
Obviously there are really great bang for buck gear DIY kits etc, but this DI was best I've ever heard but a good margin!
