Audioquest Dragonfly V1.2 query

I'm finally convinced (and motivated) to move away from a CD based hifi system.  I've got close to 1000 discs, storage is a right royal PITA, and Mr 2 + Miss 4 have been frisbeeing them, or worse.

I have a 2011 spec iMac with plenty of space in the main room where my system is also located.  I'm also subscribed to Apple Music and love it so far - the quality appears to be excellent and a handy feature is that you can store the music locally (ie offline) to save data leeching.

What I want to do is:

  • Audioquest Dragonfly V1.2 as the oem 3.5mm output from the Mac itself is not only weak, it sounds appalling
  • Good quality 5m length of 3.5mm stereo to twin RCA cable from the Audioquest running to a spare auxillary on my Rotel RA-971mkII
  • Files fed directly from the Mac, mainly Apple Music files in m4p format.

Everyone seems to be buzzing re just how good the dragonfly is at driving headphones.  I'm not interested in doing that, already own a Perreaux SXH-1 class A amp for that task.

My question is will the Audioquest fed to a proper hifi system do justice, or am I wasting my cash?  It seems like a drop dead bargain for the money.
