G'day all, I feel a bit of a conflict here! Are 'measurements' more important than the 'way it sounds'? As a former tech I admit to having faith in measurements yet increasingly I feel that 'the way it sounds' is probably more important than measurements in practical terms.
A recent email correspondence with Rod Elliott of ESP fame (not yet finalised), regarding the sound of the two HF filter networks for the DIY P06 phono stage, one of which I hate the sound of, and the other (the original values), I dearly love, yet according to Rod Elliott the two are practically electrically equivalent, but it sure doesn't sound like it to me!
Rod Elliott has admitted that his own P06 uses the old network but considers that the newer network should sound the same, yet to me it doesn't....and I do trust my hearing! Is this a case where 'measurements' may be meaningless? In my opinion....yes! Regards, Felix.
