G'day all, today I spent an hour or so reading through old posts on various online audio fora on earlier phono cartridge days, admittedly with an emphasis on Shure and I gain the clear impression that they were the font of all knowledge when it came to phono cartridges especially during the 1970's.
Indeed they released a few ground breaking technical papers from the time that I personally regard as reference. They are fascinating reading, in all honestly and one might get the impression that the present State of the Art with phono cartridges has gone slightly backwards since those heady days.
From personal recollection I even recall ultra light tracking weight cartridges (below 1 gram) with impeccable performance from the era of 4 channel records. So how do things really stand today compared to those fascinating days? Regards, Felix.
