Hi
Recently I bought a splendid Clear Audio Performance DC turntable and had all sorts of problems setting it up. It almost drove me mad but with the help of knowlegeable members here I sorted it out.
One aspect of the saga needs to be mentioned. I was using a cheap electronic stylus force gauge to measure tracking force. At the recommended tracking force that the gauge showed I always got distortion and could not work out why. It was only when I used a clear audio gauge that I realised the problem - the el cheapo gauge gave consistently wrong readings because the stylus sat too high on it. This resulted in a tracking force that was WAY too light!! I was very puzzled - it seemed that it was only increasing tracking force to unacceptable limits that I got a decent sound.
Anyway lesson learned - get a decent tracking force gauge!
I feel that I owe some sort of apology to Clearaudio. The Performance DC really is a work of art and highly recommended.
Cheers,
Rob
