Ground loop "hum" present when TV switched off

Hi All,

Unfortunately I've been forced to run an unconventional setup to get sound out of my new Apple TV as the 60" plasma doesn't have any audio out besides a speaker out which is designed for external speakers, so I've connected these to an RCA input on my amp to get sound. Obviously this isn't ideal and I plan on upgrading my reciever to a HDMI switching one soon but the humming when the TV switches off is annoying.

Is it possible to ground the speaker output to the amp to stop the hum or will that cause more problems, blow it up?

Yes I could just switch off the amp, but im concerned the speaker output from the TV is going to cause the amp harm.

For clarification here is my situation

Source APPLE TV > HDMI CABLE > PLASMA > SPEAKER OUT TO RCA > AMPLIFIER

Really disappointed Apple ditched the Optical out.

Any other fix besides buying an expensive isolator?

Cheers!
