Hi All,
I've meen missing a "no-holds barred, get half the people banned from the forum" discussion recently, so thought I'd toss up a highly non-controversial topic :-) to get some feedback.
I have a Linn Axis running a Basik + and Ortofon MC20 Super. It sounds great. It has some warmth to it and I sometimes play it to enjoy the interactive vinyl experience (as opposed to digital). I listen to a mix of 80s-00s pop/rock, plus classical. I'm looking for more acoustic stuff to bring out the best in the vinyl experience. I have about 80 LPs now.
From a digital point of view, I also have an Antipodes DS and TIdal Premium which gives me virtually everything media-wise I need. It also resolves the music a bit better than the Linn, particularly in the upper-mid range. It is brighter than vinyl, but not fatiguingly so.
I'm thinking about upgrading the T/T and the options are:
- Sondek
- Everything else
I went to a shop last week and listened to a Project 10.1 RPM - I guess about $3,500 of turntable. Frankly, it did nothing for me. Not sure if it was the room I was in, but my issue is that if I want the best resolution, I have digital for that. This deck seemed to have neither an enchanting vinyl sound or better than digital resolution.
I have some feedback from a Linn expert who believes that a Sondek will create the experience I am after. I will do some more auditioning this weekend (including a new Sondek Majik) but in the meantime, I'm keen to have other opinions
Which camp do you fall into? Linn adikt or steer clear?
Thanks
Torben
PS - please no comments about how the MC20 Super won't work with a Basik+ arm. This is an old wives' tale which may have been true about the Basik LVV but I have expert confirmation of what my ears tell me - it is not the case with the Basik +
